Rules Restaurant

Region:
Greater London

City:
London

Description:
Today rules is still flourishing, the oldest restaurant in London and one of the most celebrated in the world. We seat over 200 people on three floors and serve an average of 450 meals a day and 120,000 customers a year. A retreat for actors. The actors and actresses who have passed through Rules are legion. Down decades Rules has been an unofficial `green room' for the world of entertainment- a meeting place for legendary names and long forgotten talents. The history of the English stage adorns the walls. From Henry Irving to Laurence Olivier. And the sibling art of the cinema contributes its own distinguished list of names... Buster Keaton, Charles Laughton, Clark Gable, Charlie Chaplin and John Barrymore. A haven for Royalty, upon the first floor by a lattice window is perhaps the most celebrated `table for two' in London. This was the Prince of Wales' favourite spot for wining and dining the beautiful Lily Langtry. So frequent were his visits that Rules had a special door put in to enable the Prince to enter and leave without having to walk through the restaurant. Their signed portraits are still there to see. Many years later another Prince of Wales, the Duke of Windsor, used to pop into the downstairs bar at NO 35 for a beer and a chat with friends. At Rules we serve the food of this country as it is at its best-fresh and interfered with as little as possible. We specialise in Classic Game Cookery, Game Birds, Furred Game and Game Fish, Oysters, Pies and Puddings. Our aim is to provide friendliness and simplicity at affordable prices.
